Nothing beats how chocolate helps me unwind. Honestly, I can’t even remember when my obsession with anything chocolate (edible, of course, haha) began. I’m all in, from chocolate bars and drinks to cakes and ice cream. Chocolate ice cream is one of those irresistible combos that I just can’t say no to. I’ve tried countless ice creams, but my quest for the ultimate chocolate ice cream led me to one of the best: Godiva ice cream.
If you’re in Jakarta, you’re probably familiar with Godiva. It’s a unique spot where you can find all things chocolate, from bars to drinks. You can visit Godiva in Indonesia at places like Plaza Indonesia and Plaza Senayan in Jakarta or Pakuwon Mall in Surabaya.
Initially, Godiva ice cream wasn’t available in Indonesia (I first tasted it in Singapore), but by early 2018, it made its way to Jakarta.
Godiva Ice Cream Review
Godiva offers its ice cream in various sizes. The smallest one costs around SGD 6, which is about Rp75,000 (or roughly Rp90,000 in Indonesia). It might seem pricey for a cone smaller than those at fast-food joints, but just wait until you taste it!
One lick and you’ll want to savor every moment. Its smooth texture, rich Belgian chocolate flavor that’s not overly sweet, and chocolate drizzle make Godiva ice cream a top contender on my list.

Imagine chocolate ice cream with a chocolate drizzle and a chocolate bar on top. Perfect!
There’s a bit of a dilemma when eating it. It’s so delicious that you want to enjoy it slowly, but it melts quickly, so you have to eat it fast.
Even the cone is tasty!
On the chocolate bar, the Godiva logo features a (pardon me) naked woman on a horse. There’s a legend behind it!
The name Godiva honors Lady Godiva, a noblewoman from Coventry, England, who lived between 1040-1080. She was the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia.

Leofric wanted to see Coventry thrive, so he imposed taxes on the people for development. Unfortunately, some taxes were unfair, like a tax on horse owners for their horses’ droppings!
Lady Godiva felt sorry for the people burdened by taxes and advocated for lower taxes. Leofric agreed, but only if she rode through town on a horse without a stitch of clothing.
Lady Godiva agreed and asked the townspeople to stay indoors and close their doors and windows tightly while she rode through town. Her request was honored, and Leofric reduced the taxes.
